Datadog Logs is a cloud log-management service for development, operations, security, and infrastructure teams that need to collect and work with logs alongside application telemetry. It accepts logs from hosts, containers, cloud environments, applications, and other sources. Teams can process, enrich, parse, route, search, and monitor those logs, with correlation to metrics, traces, and security signals. That breadth suits organizations seeking a shared observability workflow; teams looking only for a standalone log viewer may not need its wider scope.

Its distinctive operational strength is the end-to-end pipeline. Pipelines and processors handle parsing, enrichment, and routing, with automatic parsing for JSON and attribute extraction from semi-structured text. Log Explorer supports search and analysis, while Live Tail shows incoming logs. Teams can generate metrics from ingested logs, archive logs to external cloud storage, and rehydrate them into Datadog. Watchdog and Bits AI provide AI-powered insights. This mix favors teams that want logs to contribute to monitoring and investigation across signals, rather than a narrow archive-only workflow.

Pricing is usage-based and separates ingestion from indexing and storage. According to the vendor's pricing page, Standard Ingest is $0.10 per ingested or scanned GB per month and covers ingesting, processing, enriching, Live Tail, and archiving. Standard Indexing is $1.70 per million log events per month, with 15-day retention plus real-time exploration, alerting, and dashboards. Flex Logs Storage is $0.05 per million events stored per month for storage-oriented retention and querying of high-volume logs. The $0.10 starting price therefore is not a complete cost for indexed, retained logs. Choose Datadog Logs if cross-signal correlation and configurable log handling justify usage-based charges; consider alternatives if you need a free plan or predictable bundled ingestion and retention.
