Datadog Kubernetes Monitoring review
A broad Kubernetes observability platform for teams managing complex cloud-native environments.

Datadog Kubernetes Monitoring brings cluster, pod, node, workload, and control-plane visibility into Datadog’s broader observability platform. It is designed for large teams operating cloud-native applications across self-managed Kubernetes and managed services such as Amazon EKS, Azure AKS, and Google GKE. Metrics, logs, distributed traces, network data, and security signals can be viewed together, with dashboards and correlated telemetry supporting performance, reliability, and security work.
Pricing is split across infrastructure and container monitoring rather than a single Kubernetes-only plan. The Free plan includes standard events and metrics, up to 5 hosts, 1 day of full-resolution data retention, and unlimited alerts. Infrastructure Pro costs $15 per infrastructure host per month with annual billing or $18 with monthly billing, adding infrastructure monitoring, host and container maps, 15 months of full-resolution retention, and unlimited alerts. Infrastructure Enterprise costs $23 annually or $27 monthly per infrastructure host and adds enterprise administration and security capabilities. Container Monitoring costs $1 per container per month with annual or monthly billing, or $0.002 per container hour on demand, and includes Container Resource Monitoring, Kubernetes Explorer, and Kubernetes workload visibility. A 14-day free trial is also available.
The strongest fit is teams that need breadth across Kubernetes operations and the surrounding application stack. Control-plane monitoring covers the API server, controller manager, scheduler, and etcd, while Autodiscovery and Datadog Operator or Helm deployment support Kubernetes data collection. Alerting can connect with email, Slack, PagerDuty, Microsoft Teams, and webhooks, alongside integrations for AWS and the three listed managed Kubernetes services. Anomaly detection, forecasting, and Watchdog analysis add automated analysis. Teams seeking only a narrow Kubernetes monitor may find the multi-product pricing structure and wider platform scope less suitable.
