Datadog APM is a cloud application performance monitoring service for teams managing browser and mobile applications, backend services, databases, and distributed systems. It combines code-level tracing with service dependency views, trace search, configurable sampling, performance dashboards, monitors, and SLOs. Its scope suits organizations that want application performance data connected with broader observability workflows rather than a narrowly focused tracing tool.
Pricing is organized around three annual-billing plans charged per APM host per month. APM costs $31 and includes distributed tracing, correlation with logs and other telemetry, and performance dashboards. APM Pro costs $35 and adds Data Streams Monitoring. APM Enterprise costs $40 and adds Continuous Profiler alongside APM Pro features. A 14-day trial is available, but there is no free plan. The host-based pricing makes the entry point straightforward to compare, while the total cost depends on the number of APM hosts covered.
The product’s strongest fit is its connected investigation workflow. Teams can inspect spans, visualize dependencies through Service Map, follow request flows across services, and correlate traces with logs using trace and span identifiers. RUM and backend trace correlation extends visibility from user experience to server-side behavior. Native and hybrid OpenTelemetry support, plus integrations with Datadog Logs, Metrics, Security Signals, AWS Lambda, and Azure App Service, supports a broad cloud environment. Choose Datadog APM when tracing, telemetry correlation, and platform-wide monitoring matter together; choose a narrower tool if avoiding host-based pricing or Datadog’s cloud platform is the priority.
