CrashCatch review
A dependency-free C++ crash handler for symbolized desktop reports.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
CrashCatch is an open-source, single-header C++ crash-reporting library for native desktop applications. It captures failures on Windows, Linux, and macOS, producing Windows MiniDump files and human-readable text reports. Its audience is developers who want crash handling embedded directly in their applications, including solo teams and larger organizations that prefer local, self-managed diagnostics.
The integration surface is focused and practical. Developers can install CrashCatch through CMake and use find_package support, or connect through its DLL/shared-library C interface. Configurable output paths, filenames, and formats help applications fit existing storage conventions. Crash-site stack traces with symbol resolution provide diagnostic context, while onCrash and onCrashUpload callbacks allow application-controlled actions, including optional offline-to-upload workflows. POSIX signal handling extends the same approach to Linux and macOS, and the lack of external dependencies keeps the component self-contained.
CrashCatch is strongest when the requirement is local crash capture inside a C++ desktop product, rather than a hosted service. Its self-hosted deployment and community support place responsibility for storage, review, retention, and operational workflows on the adopting team. The library does not provide mobile or web support, and it lacks built-in grouping, integrations, or a hosted workflow for organizing incoming reports. Choose it when direct control, platform coverage, and symbolized files matter most; choose another category solution when teams need centralized triage, automated aggregation, or a managed reporting environment.

- Community support and self-hosted operation require internal ownership
