Couchbase XDCR replicates bucket data between Couchbase clusters across data centers, cloud regions, cloud providers, and on-premises environments. It is designed for enterprise teams operating globally distributed applications that need high availability, disaster recovery, migration, or geographic data distribution. Continuous replication can run in unidirectional or bidirectional topologies, with support for scopes and collections, document filtering, compression, bandwidth controls, and replication monitoring.

Pricing follows the Couchbase plan that includes XDCR rather than a separate XDCR license. The Basic plan starts at $0.15 per node per hour and includes XDCR, SQL++, search, indexing, RBAC, scopes and collections, and single-cluster availability zone support. Developer Pro costs $0.35 per node per hour and adds multiple cluster availability zones and up to a 1-hour backup interval. Enterprise costs $0.49 per node per hour and adds cluster and App Services auditing plus customer-managed encryption keys through KMIP. Couchbase Enterprise costs $0.66 per node per hour and includes Couchbase Server 8, XDCR, search and indexing, Eventing services, and backup and recovery. The plan structure also includes a Free plan with 1 node and 8GB, alongside SQL++ and key-value access, Search, and Mobile App Services.

The strongest fit is for teams already operating Couchbase Capella, Couchbase Server, Couchbase App Services, or the Kubernetes Operator. Administration is available through a REST API, CLI, and Web Console, while xdcrDiffer supports data consistency comparison. Sequence numbers or timestamps handle conflict resolution, and filters can use document fields, values, and metadata. This narrow ecosystem focus is useful when Couchbase is central to the application architecture, but teams seeking replication across a broader set of database platforms should consider an alternative. XDCR is a focused choice for Couchbase bucket replication, not a general-purpose multi-database replication layer.
