Our verdict on Comic DAYS
Comic DAYS brings Kodansha manga to the web and its iOS and Android apps, with reading also available on PC. Its mix of free serialized manga, selected free-reading campaigns, chapter purchases, and magazine subscriptions suits readers in Japan who want both individual series and Kodansha magazine issues in one service. Readers outside Japan should look elsewhere: the service is intended for use in Japan across both its app and browser versions.
The subscription choice is the main distinction between its paid plans. DAYS Premium includes access to five magazines, while DAYS More Premium covers eighteen; both include 200 monthly points for eligible manga purchases. The published starting price is ¥720, and the first-month free access described for the service is a time-limited trial rather than a free subscription plan. Readers can also buy some manga by the chapter using points, while free series and campaigns provide another way to read without subscribing. This structure fits someone who already knows which magazines they want; occasional readers may prefer the free offerings or chapter purchases.
Magazine issues arrive around the print magazine release date, and subscribed issues can be downloaded in the app during their availability period. That makes the service more useful for following magazine releases than a standalone chapter store, but the stated release timing concerns magazine issues, not every manga chapter. Web, iOS, Android, and PC access offer several ways to read, while offline access is specifically tied to subscribed magazines in the app. Choose Comic DAYS for Kodansha magazines and its free or point-purchased manga within Japan; readers seeking a service intended for use elsewhere, or guaranteed simultaneous chapter releases, should consider another option.
