ColdAisle review
A free, broad DCIM application for teams prepared to manage their own Windows deployment.

ColdAisle is an open-source data center infrastructure management application for operators and infrastructure teams managing cabinets, racks, power, cooling, cabling, IP addresses, monitoring, work orders, and audits. It is designed for organizations that want a broad DCIM scope while keeping the application on customer-controlled Windows infrastructure rather than using hosted SaaS. The published feature set covers planning, operations, monitoring, access control, and migration from openDCIM.
ColdAisle is free to use and MIT-licensed, with a self-hosted deployment model. The application requires Windows infrastructure with IIS, PHP, and SQL Server, so adoption includes responsibility for the underlying environment. Authentication can use role-based access with Administrator, Operator, Auditor, and Viewer roles, plus optional LDAPS or Microsoft Entra ID support. The product also includes openDCIM import with preview and merge modes, which supports teams transitioning existing information into the application.
Its strongest distinction is breadth across physical infrastructure and operational workflows. Teams can create 2D floor plans, interactive 3D floor and rack views, rack elevations with U-space and conflict checks, power and cooling telemetry, airflow visualizations, cabling paths, IPAM indexes, SNMPv2c/v3 discovery, work orders, physical audits, audit trails, and disposal workflows. Integrations include ServiceNow, Jira, Zendesk, Freshservice, ManageEngine ServiceDesk Cloud, Microsoft Entra ID, LDAPS, and openDCIM. ColdAisle suits teams that value free, open-source, self-hosted DCIM with wide coverage; teams that prefer hosted SaaS or do not want to manage Windows-based infrastructure should consider a different approach.
