CodeRunner is a macOS desktop programming editor and lightweight IDE for writing, running, and debugging code. It suits individual developers, learners, and teams that want a compact environment rather than a broad multi-platform editor. The feature set covers 25 languages out of the box, configurable run commands for additional languages, code completion with documentation snippets, syntax highlighting, inline error checking, linting, a file navigator, folder-wide search and replace, and a built-in console. Its debugger adds breakpoints, call-stack inspection, variable inspection, and variable editing.

Pricing is straightforward but does not include a free tier. The Personal License costs $22.99 as a one-time purchase and includes individual use plus free future upgrades. The Site License costs $15 per computer as a one-time purchase, is intended for companies or institutions, uses a single license key, and has a five-computer minimum. That structure makes the personal option suitable for an individual buyer, while the site option is more relevant when an organization needs coverage across multiple Macs. Buyers should distinguish the one-time license terms from subscription pricing expectations.

The strongest fit is a Mac-centered run-and-debug workflow. Built-in run arguments and input sets, a documentation sidebar, customizable key bindings, and Vim mode add control without moving the core workflow outside the editor. Syntax highlighting supports more than 200 modes, while configurable run commands extend the language list beyond the 25 included languages. CodeRunner is less suitable for anyone who needs Windows or Linux support, a free entry point, or a site license for fewer than five computers. Choose it for focused desktop coding on macOS; consider an alternative when cross-platform access or broader deployment flexibility matters.
