Codealike review
A low-cost way to analyze developer activity and focus, but not DORA delivery metrics.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
Codealike analyzes metadata from developers’ IDEs and browsers to provide personal and team productivity insights. It is suited to teams studying coding activity, focus periods, interruptions, technical-debt indicators, programming languages, and technology usage. Activity mapping covers coding, debugging, systems management, building, editing, and reading, while the service does not upload source-code files. Developers review the resulting metrics through the Codealike web service after using supported IDE plugins and browser extensions.
The published plans show a freemium structure. Free access provides core analysis and insights, In-the-Zone measurement, activity tracking, technical-debt analysis, IDE and browser plugins, and data ownership. The Premium plan costs $12 per month on monthly billing and adds a focus curve and dispersion chart, team activity views, developer metric comparisons, browser activity tracking, and data export. Export supports further analysis in spreadsheet or analytics tools, making Premium more relevant when teams need to compare activity or move results into another workflow.
Platform coverage is a practical strength: integrations include Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave, Visual Studio, VS Code, IntelliJ IDEA, Eclipse, and Android Studio, with web and Chrome-extension access listed as platforms. Codealike also offers an embeddable developer summary widget and ranking against the Codealike community. Its scope is narrower than a delivery-metrics product because DORA metrics are not provided. Choose Codealike when the priority is understanding developer activity, focus, technical debt, and team comparisons; choose another tool when delivery-performance measurement is the central requirement.
