Cloudflare Workers KV review
A low-cost, read-optimized edge store for globally distributed application data.

Cloudflare Workers KV is a managed, globally distributed key-value database for applications running on Cloudflare Workers. It stores data centrally and caches frequently accessed values at Cloudflare locations, making it suited to read-heavy workloads such as configuration, personalization, routing data, API keys, authentication tokens, static assets, and caching. Developers can read, write, list, delete, expire, and bulk-manage values through Workers bindings or the Cloudflare REST API.
Pricing is usage-based. The Free plan includes 100,000 read requests per day, 1,000 write, delete, and list requests per day, and 1 GB of stored data. The Paid plan charges $0.50 per GB-month of stored data and $0.50 per million read requests. This structure suits projects that want to begin with a free allowance or pay according to storage and read activity rather than commit to a fixed subscription. The paid tier is most relevant when request volume or stored data grows beyond the Free plan.
Its strongest fit is the Cloudflare ecosystem: Workers bindings support direct application access, while Wrangler, the Cloudflare REST API, and TypeScript, Python, and Go SDKs support development and external application workflows. Automatic expiration, absolute expiration, TTL, metadata up to 1,024 bytes, multiple value retrieval modes, and bulk writes of up to 10,000 key-value pairs add practical flexibility. The trade-off is architectural: Workers KV is read-optimized and eventually consistent, so it is better for globally distributed configuration, cached content, and similar data than workloads requiring transactional behavior or immediate worldwide consistency. Choose it for edge-oriented read performance and simple key-value access; choose another database for transaction-heavy systems.
