Cloudflare R2 is an object storage service for developers and application teams managing unstructured data, including user content, logs, media, AI datasets, and model artifacts. Its S3-compatible API supports AWS S3 SDKs, while REST API, Wrangler CLI, and the Cloudflare Workers API provide additional access paths. R2 is available through web and API interfaces, with Standard and Infrequent Access storage classes for different storage patterns.

Pricing is organized around monthly storage usage and operations. Standard storage is priced at $0.015 per GB-month and includes a 10 GB-month free monthly tier. Infrequent Access storage is priced at $0.01 per GB-month, with a 30-day minimum storage duration and a per-GB data retrieval charge. The published plans also show different request pricing between the two storage classes. R2 charges for storage and operations while offering no direct egress charge, making the pricing structure particularly relevant for applications that frequently deliver stored data.

R2 fits teams already working with Cloudflare Workers, AWS S3 SDKs, Wrangler, DuckDB, Spark, Trino, or Snowflake. Lifecycle rules can handle expiration and storage-class transitions, while bucket locks support retention and overwrite protection. Data placement can be automatic, hinted, or jurisdiction-restricted. Optional Local Uploads provide cross-region asynchronous replication during uploads. R2 is a strong fit for S3-compatible storage within the Cloudflare ecosystem; teams needing synchronous cross-region replication or a different storage model should evaluate alternatives.
