Cloudflare AI Gateway review
A free managed gateway for routing, monitoring, and governing multi-provider AI traffic.

Cloudflare AI Gateway is a cloud-based gateway for applications that use large language models and other AI services. It is designed for developers and organizations building, operating, and governing AI-powered applications across multiple providers. A unified API supports provider-specific endpoints and OpenAI-compatible interfaces, while integrations include Workers AI, Amazon Bedrock, Anthropic, Azure OpenAI, Google Vertex AI, Groq, Cohere, DeepSeek, and other listed services.
The main value is operational visibility and routing control. Request, token, cost, error, and cache analytics help teams monitor AI traffic, while request logging and response caching support ongoing application management. Retries and model fallback routing can direct requests around provider or model issues. Spend limits can be scoped by model, provider, or metadata, giving teams a way to apply budget controls to different usage patterns. BYOK provider-key storage and rotation add credential-management controls within the gateway.
According to the published plan structure, AI Gateway core includes dashboard analytics, caching, and rate limiting and is available on all Cloudflare plans. The gateway access is free, while provider inference costs are passed through separately. Teams seeking a managed gateway with multiple provider connections, analytics, fallback routing, and budget controls should find the feature set aligned with that need. Organizations that require self-hosted deployment should consider a gateway built around that deployment model instead.
