CleanMyMac X review
A cleanup-focused Mac utility with malware scanning and real-time monitoring.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
CleanMyMac X is a macOS utility for individual Mac users who want system cleanup and malware monitoring in one product. It removes system junk, caches, application leftovers, large and old files, and privacy traces. Alongside cleanup, it provides malware scanning, malware removal, real-time monitoring, background scanning, ransomware protection, and tools for managing login items, launch agents, and hung applications. Its focus is broader Mac maintenance rather than antivirus protection alone.
The paid product offers an annual subscription for one Mac and a one-time purchase for one Mac. Subscribers receive future major-version upgrades, while the one-time option includes a 30-day money-back guarantee. A 7-day free trial is available, and the product does not have a free plan. MacPaw also offers larger device plans through its store and other marketplaces, with pricing varying by marketplace, country, taxes, and device count. This structure suits individual users who prefer either ongoing upgrades or a single purchase.
CleanMyMac X stands out when storage management and application maintenance matter as much as malware monitoring. Its uninstalling and updating tools, login-item management, privacy cleanup, and Space Lens storage visualization extend beyond a narrow antivirus workflow. The trade-off is platform scope: it supports macOS and is designed around one Mac by default. Users seeking a dedicated antivirus product across multiple operating systems, or protection centered primarily on security controls, should consider an alternative. For Mac users who want cleanup, optimization, and malware monitoring together, CleanMyMac X is the more fitting choice.
