Our verdict on ClaroRead

ClaroRead is literacy-support software for students and other learners who benefit from help with reading, writing and study. It reads text aloud with synchronized dual-color highlighting, offers spoken spelling alternatives and word prediction, and supports speech-to-text. The product also covers printed and displayed material through OCR scanning and screen capture. Everway positions it for schools, further and higher education, individuals and workplaces, with desktop and browser support across Windows, macOS, Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

Its strongest differentiator is breadth. Alongside text-to-speech, ClaroRead includes proofreading, screen tinting, reading rulers, custom Exam Mode, and Listening Later exports to audio or video. Study-focused additions include mind mapping and Claro Ideas, while Claro Speak, Claro PDF and Claro Scan Pen extend the wider toolset. Support for 30 languages makes it relevant to varied learning environments, although buyers seeking only a basic read-aloud utility may not need this wider set of features.

Pricing is structured around three paid options: an Individual licence costs £250, Schools costs £1,250, and Further and higher education costs £3,000. Each plan includes access to key features, Exam Mode, Claro Speak, Claro PDF, Claro Scan Pen, mind mapping, Claro Ideas, Onboarding and Academy. There is no free plan, API or voice cloning. ClaroRead is therefore a fit for education and accessibility programs that need reading, writing and study support in one product, but a weaker choice for buyers prioritizing low-cost entry, developer access or voice cloning.
