Cheerio review
A free, code-based parser for static markup—not a browser-rendering scraper.

Cheerio is an open-source JavaScript library for parsing and manipulating HTML and XML. Its jQuery-like API lets developers select elements, traverse document trees, filter selections, and read or change text, attributes, and markup. It fits developers writing code to process static page content, whether in browser or server environments. It is not a managed scraping service or a browser: pages whose content depends on client-side JavaScript need another tool.
Markup can be loaded from strings, buffers, streams, or URLs. Once loaded, developers can work with document selections and serialize a document or selected elements back to HTML. Cheerio supports parse5 and optional htmlparser2 parser configuration, giving the library a focused parsing and transformation role. For teams that need to extract structured content from markup they can access directly, that scope may be sufficient; projects requiring rendered-page content should look for a tool that executes JavaScript.
Cheerio is open source and has a free plan, with deployment options listed as cloud, self-hosted, and browser extension. Its support channels are community and documentation. That combination suits developers comfortable integrating a library into their own code and relying on community resources. The feature set centers on parsing, selectors, traversal, and HTML serialization rather than scheduling or broader managed scraping workflows. Choose Cheerio for code-based handling of static HTML and XML; choose an alternative when browser rendering, external resource loading, or a managed scraping service is central to the work.
