Our verdict on Captions
Captions is an AI video creation and editing platform for creators, marketers, businesses, and professional services teams. It supports recording or importing footage, automatic editing, styled captions, translation, dubbing, AI voiceovers, and avatar-based video creation. Users can choose preset digital avatars, generate custom avatars from text prompts, or create a personal AI twin from their likeness and speech patterns. The product is available through iOS, web, desktop, and API workflows, with capabilities varying by platform and subscription plan.
Pricing is structured around monthly credit allowances. The Max plan costs $24.99 per month and includes 500 credits, digital twins and custom AI actors, a chat-based editor, and AI-generated B-roll, music, sound effects, and images. Scale costs $69.99 per month for 1,400 credits, while Scale 2x costs $139.99 for 2,800 credits and Scale 4x costs $279.99 for 5,600 credits. These Scale tiers add higher customized usage tiers and access to advanced generative AI models. Enterprise has custom pricing, custom seat options, dedicated account management, and training data exclusion.
Its strongest fit is for teams that want avatar-led video production alongside editing rather than a narrowly focused avatar generator. Captions combines automatic cuts, B-roll, styled captions, voice cloning, translation, dubbing, lip synchronization, and AI-generated media in one workflow. API-based AI video generation also supports programmatic production. The trade-off is that the product spans several creation modes, while platform and subscription differences affect available capabilities. Choose Captions for mobile-first editing and avatar videos with voice and localization features; consider an alternative if your priority is a wider integration ecosystem or a narrower, dedicated avatar workflow.
