Camunda is a process orchestration platform for enterprises coordinating people, AI agents, systems, and devices across end-to-end business processes. It combines BPMN process modeling with the Zeebe distributed workflow orchestration engine, human task management, connectors, operations monitoring, analytics, and administration. Its AI capabilities support stateful agents and adaptive decision-making, while approval gates, manual overrides, and auditability keep people involved where business processes require control. Camunda suits organizations embedding agents into established operational workflows rather than teams seeking a standalone chatbot builder.

Deployment is available through Camunda SaaS or self-managed infrastructure. The Self-Managed Development plan is free for development and testing, requires no license, runs locally, and includes the process engine, Operate, Tasklist, Identity, Optimize, Desktop Modeler, Web Modeler, and Console. Self-Managed Production runs on the customer's infrastructure, requires an Enterprise license, and includes 24×7 support with SLAs. Camunda SaaS is hosted and operated by Camunda, includes a 30-day free trial, and requires contacting sales for production purchase. The published plans show a clear path from local development to managed or customer-operated production, but paid production pricing is sales-led.

Its main strength is the combination of process depth and agent control. Pre-built connectors support ERP, CRM, and ITSM systems, OpenAI, Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, MCP, A2A, REST APIs, Slack, Microsoft Teams, and email. REST and OpenAPI access support integration, while role-based access control, SSO, SCIM, and service-account management address administration. Operate supports live monitoring and incident resolution; Optimize adds dashboards and KPI monitoring; process versioning supports migration of in-flight instances. Choose Camunda when governance, approvals, observability, and process continuity matter. Teams wanting a lightweight agent runtime without BPMN and operational components may prefer a narrower platform.
