Caligare Flow Inspector review
A focused Cisco NetFlow analyzer with a capable free edition and clear device limits.

Caligare Flow Inspector is Linux-based, on-premises network traffic monitoring and analysis software for midsize and large organizations. It collects Cisco NetFlow Data Exports from existing routers and presents the results through a web-based interface. Teams can examine top hosts, protocols, applications, conversations, interface utilization, historical trends, traffic searches, and utilization maps without dedicated probes. Its fit is strongest for organizations that already operate Cisco routers or switches and want focused flow visibility.
The Free Edition supports non-commercial use, up to 2 monitored devices, 24-hour history, and up to 250 flows per second. It handles NetFlow versions 1, 5, 6, 7, and 9. The Professional Edition adds commercial use for monitoring one to nine devices, long-term historical trends, network anomaly detection, and unlimited NetFlow traffic parsing. Enterprise Edition keeps those paid-edition capabilities while allowing unlimited monitored devices. A 30-day trial license is available, and the published plans use a freemium structure rather than a single product-wide tier.
Platform fit is direct: the product runs on Linux, provides a web interface, and integrates with Cisco routers and switches for collection. LDAP, user, group, and external authentication support can align access with existing identity arrangements. Application identification, application-group configuration, low-level flow filtering, CSV or email export, and flow forwarding add operational depth beyond basic bandwidth reporting. Organizations needing Cisco NetFlow analysis with a free non-commercial starting point should consider it; teams requiring broader flow-protocol coverage, a non-Linux deployment, or commercial monitoring beyond two devices should evaluate alternatives or the paid editions.
