Our verdict on CALI Lessons
CALI Lessons is a library of focused, web-based tutorials for learning legal topics, aimed at law students and faculty. CALI says law faculty and librarians write the lessons, which an editorial board reviews. Students can use them for self-study or classroom instruction; faculty can assign them. Lessons typically take about 45 minutes and include questions with immediate feedback, making the product better suited to studying individual subjects than to comprehensive bar preparation.
The library contains over 1,200 lessons, browsable by topic, subject outline, or casebook. That breadth supports targeted review across legal subjects, while the interactive question-and-feedback format gives students a way to check understanding as they work. Lessons are available on the web and on iPads and iPhones. Student lesson runs and scores are saved in their accounts, so progress is retained. Faculty can use LessonLink for assignment, grading, and analytics, and can edit and self-publish lessons through CALI Author.
Access is free and unlimited for students, staff, and faculty of CALI member organizations, but it is not a general individual subscription: eligibility is tied to membership, and individual or organizational CALI membership may be required. This makes CALI Lessons a practical fit for eligible law schools and their communities that want supplementary interactive study materials and faculty oversight. Students seeking a dedicated bar-preparation course, or learners without access through a CALI member organization, should look elsewhere.
