Cachix is a hosted binary-cache service for the Nix ecosystem. It stores and serves prebuilt Nix build outputs so developer machines, CI pipelines, and deployment environments can reuse artifacts instead of rebuilding them. Teams can create public or private caches, push outputs from CI, authenticate private caches with access tokens, and use store-path signing. Cachix Deploy extends the product to continuous deployment for NixOS, nix-darwin, Home Manager, and other Nix profiles.
The plan structure scales by storage and deployment capacity. Starter includes 50 GiB of storage, unlimited bandwidth, Cloudflare CDN caching, and Cachix Deploy for 100 agents. Standard raises storage to 250 GiB, includes a 1-hour Nix consultation, and supports 200 agents. Pro includes 1500 GiB, a 1-hour Nix consultation, and Cachix Deploy for 1000 agents. All three listed plans include unlimited bandwidth and Cloudflare CDN caching. A free plan is available, and the product also offers a 14-day free trial. Annual plans include one free month, while paid plan pricing is handled through contact with Cachix.
Cachix fits teams already invested in Nix and common CI environments, with integrations for GitHub Actions, Buildkite, CircleCI, GitLab CI, Hercules CI, Hydra, and Travis CI. Its feature set is notably focused: cache authentication, signing, retention pins, storage-limit garbage collection, CDN caching, and deployment are all centered on Nix artifacts. That focus is useful for Nix workflows but makes Cachix a less natural choice for organizations seeking a broad, general-purpose artifact repository. Choose it for hosted Nix caches and deployment; consider an alternative if your primary requirement is multi-ecosystem artifact management.
