Bytesafe review
A focused dependency firewall for teams prioritizing package risk controls.

Bytesafe Dependency Firewall is a managed and self-hostable software supply-chain security platform from Bitfront AB. It is designed for development and security teams that need to evaluate dependency requests before installation. Bytesafe sits between package clients, CI/CD pipelines, repository managers, and upstream registries, supporting npm, Maven, PyPI, NuGet, Go, Composer, Cargo, and Conda.
Its strongest area is policy-based dependency control. Rules can evaluate packages by vulnerability, malware, version, age, source, license, and custom criteria. Internal-upstream precedence helps prevent dependency confusion, while upstream proxying and artifact caching can keep approved packages available through a controlled path. Audit logs, live request logs, metrics, observations, and time-limited exceptions give teams visibility and a way to handle blocked packages without removing policy controls. Role, team, firewall, and token-based access controls add fine-grained administration, supported by a management API and command-line interface.
Pricing is structured around a paid Cloud plan and an Enterprise option. According to the published Cloud plan, pricing is €99 per month and is based on the largest of active users, packages scanned, or downloads served; it includes 10 active users, 5,000 packages scanned, 250,000 downloads served, all listed source ecosystems, audit logs, and role-based access control. Enterprise adds custom deployment, support, and commercial terms, with more than 500 active users, unlimited namespaces, SIEM export, on-premise, BYO Cloud, or managed Cloud deployment, and premium support. A 14-day free trial is available. Bytesafe suits teams focused on dependency risk and malware prevention, but teams needing container artifacts or a broader repository scope should choose an alternative.
