Our verdict on Bracketlapse

Bracketlapse is an open-source, cross-platform command-line application for photographers processing bracketed time-lapse stills. It groups JPG exposures, fuses them into HDR-style frames, optionally aligns the frames, applies deflicker processing, and generates HEVC/H.265 MP4 video. Configurable bracket sizes, filename sorting, subdirectory merging and manual video creation make it suited to solo photographers and small teams managing existing image sequences rather than controlling a camera directly.

The project is free to use under the GPL-3.0-or-later license, with no paid tiers described. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux and is self-hosted. Its workflow is built around Hugin enfuse for exposure fusion, Hugin align_image_stack for optional alignment, simple-deflicker for sequence processing and FFmpeg for video encoding. Directory standby mode can watch folders while capture continues, while documented package-manager setup supports Linux users. These components give the utility a clear still-image-to-video pipeline, but users should expect a command-line workflow and responsibility for local installation.

Bracketlapse’s focus is narrow: bracketed JPG processing for time-lapse output. It supports JPG and TIF image handling in the category specification, but does not support RAW photos, camera control or interval scheduling. That makes it a practical choice for photographers who already capture bracketed sequences and want HDR-style frames, deflickering and HEVC MP4 export across desktop operating systems. Choose another tool if you need an integrated camera controller, scheduled interval capture, RAW-first processing or a graphical onboarding experience.
