Blockscout is an explorer and developer API for EVM-compatible networks, suited to teams that need to inspect onchain activity and add explorer or data-access capabilities to their workflows. It supports public networks, testnets, private networks, layer 2s and sidechains across several hundred chains and rollups. The web interface supports transaction searches, account and balance inspection, smart contract verification, and Read and Write interaction with verified contracts. Developers can also use its APIs and deployment tooling to run explorers themselves.

The free plan includes 100K credits per day, 5 requests per second, and access to all supported chains. The published PRO API plans are monthly: $49 provides 15 requests per second and 100M credits, while $199 provides 30 requests per second and 500M credits. These plans use credit-based limits rather than a monthly request quota. Enterprise has custom pricing. The tier differences make the API a fit for projects that can estimate their data needs, while teams with variable or larger usage should compare expected credit consumption with the available limits before choosing a plan.

Blockscout connects to development workflows through Hardhat, Foundry, Sourcify, Remix, thirdweb and React. Its React SDK supports transaction notifications and history in dApps, and indexed data is available through REST and RPC. Documented deployment methods support self-hosting, which is useful for teams that need to operate an explorer for their own network. Blockscout is better viewed as an explorer and data layer than as a complete development environment: teams looking for a primary workspace for building and managing contracts may need other tools alongside it. Choose it for network inspection, contract verification and indexed access; look elsewhere if those functions alone do not cover your development workflow.

Blockscout pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • Search transactions, inspect accounts and balances, and interact with verified contracts
    • Indexed REST and RPC access, with a shared PRO API key across supported chains
    • Self-hosted deployment options and integrations including Hardhat, Foundry and Remix
  • Where it doesn't
    • Explorer and API capabilities are adjacent to, not a primary development environment
    • Free API access is limited to 100K credits per day and 5 requests per second
    • Enterprise pricing is custom
