Better-PaaS review
A free, open-source PaaS with Git, Docker, databases, and custom Rust toolchain control.

Better-PaaS is an open-source, self-hosted platform-as-a-service for developers and small teams deploying applications on a VPS, home lab, private cloud, or other infrastructure they control. It supports Git repository deployments, Nixpacks builds, Docker images, Dockerfiles, automatic HTTPS, custom domains, persistent volumes, live logs, in-container shell access, scheduled jobs, backups, and rollbacks. Rust developers can deploy from Git when Nixpacks supports the application or provide a Dockerfile for more direct build control.
The Self-hosted plan costs 0 USD per month and includes unlimited apps on your hardware, Git deploys, HTTPS, logs, shell access, databases, volumes, and backups. It has no platform markup or seat pricing, while server or VPS costs remain separate. Managed Better-PaaS is a separate plan in which Better-PaaS operates the control plane while workloads remain on infrastructure you control. The published plan details do not provide a price for that option.
Rust toolchain control is the main reason to consider Better-PaaS over a narrower deployment workflow. Nixpacks handles application builds, while Docker image and Dockerfile support gives teams another path when a project needs a specific environment. The surrounding stack includes Caddy for routing, Cloudflare DNS, PostgreSQL, Redis, and MySQL services, plus integrations with Cursor, Claude Code, and MCP. Scoped agent tokens and MCP tools extend its automation options. Better-PaaS suits teams comfortable owning infrastructure and deployment configuration; teams wanting a fully provider-managed hosting service should consider another option.
