Our verdict on Basis
Basis is a web-based fund administration platform for private equity, real estate, private credit, debt funds, and family offices. It brings investor onboarding, identity and tax-document verification, investor communications, capital calls, distributions, ownership records, capital accounts, reconciliation, reporting, and NAV production into one operating environment. Its international focus is clear: investors can access English and Spanish documents and portal content, while administrators can support sanctions screening and payment options including bank transfers and optional stablecoin settlement.
The workflow coverage is the main reason to consider Basis. Teams can prepare, allocate, notify, and approve capital calls; manage distribution allocations, withholding records, and payouts; and maintain an ownership register with audit-logged state changes and reconciliation. Capital account statements and NAV production follow the fund’s valuation policy. Governed automation adds a review control: agents draft actions, a named person approves them, and resulting changes are recorded in an audit trail. Optional permissioned tokenization and USDC settlement extend the platform for funds with those operating requirements.
Pricing is structured around a fixed fee per fund, metering per active investor, and a quote at signing, with additional services priced separately. That model may suit managers seeking administration costs aligned to fund and investor activity, but it requires a sales process rather than a published numeric software plan. Basis is a strong fit for international private-fund operations that need investor servicing and core administration workflows together. Organizations seeking a narrower tool, or those for whom documented waterfall calculations are central, should evaluate alternatives.
