BackupChain is self-hosted Windows backup software for IT professionals and managed service providers. It covers file and folder backup with versioning, disk imaging, disk cloning, bare-metal recovery, and backup for physical and virtual environments. Hyper-V, VMware, and VirtualBox are supported, while Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Exchange Server appear among its integrations. The product is aimed at organizations that need more than file copies, particularly those protecting Windows PCs, servers, and virtual machines.

Its perpetual pricing is organized by edition. Professional Edition costs $62.99 one time and is for Windows PCs, with file backup and versioning and a two-CPU-core limit. Server Edition costs $249.99 one time and adds Windows Server and Hyper-V Server coverage, plus file, database, and virtual-machine backup and regular business-hours support. Server Enterprise Edition costs $499.99 one time and adds granular virtual-machine backup and restore, no CPU core limit, and centralized management features. Platinum Edition costs $999.99 one time and includes granular backup and restore, premium 24/7/365 support, and a full service plan. A 20-day free trial is available.

The feature set is broad within Windows environments. Backup targets include FTP/FTPS, network, USB, iSCSI, and cloud destinations, while incremental and differential deduplication, backup verification, bit-rot detection, AES-256 encryption, and scheduling address operational needs beyond basic copying. Centralized remote management is available in selected editions. BackupChain fits Windows-focused teams that need imaging, cloning, bare-metal recovery, and granular VM protection under one product. Organizations requiring mobile backup or coverage beyond Windows should choose an alternative with broader platform support.
