Our verdict on BackgroundMattingV2

BackgroundMattingV2 is an open-source computer-vision model for separating foreground subjects from video or image backgrounds. It is aimed at developers and researchers building matting into their own applications, rather than users seeking a hosted video editor. The model produces an alpha matte and foreground output that can be composited onto a new background, and it runs on Linux in a self-hosted workflow.

Its main strength is technical output flexibility. The published implementation targets 4K at 30 fps and HD at 60 fps on an Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti, while offering configurable refinement modes and sampling limits. Inference is available for supplied video files, image directories, and interactive webcam input.
