Azure Web PubSub review
A managed Azure service for real-time apps that need WebSockets, pub-sub, and scale.

Azure Web PubSub is a managed Azure service for adding real-time messaging to web applications. It suits teams building chat, notifications, live broadcasts, collaborative experiences, or IoT dashboards that need WebSocket connections without managing connection infrastructure themselves. Applications can use standard WebSocket clients, while server-side code uses SDKs or REST APIs to manage clients and send messages. MQTT over WebSocket is also supported, extending its fit to applications that use that protocol.
Its messaging model combines native and serverless WebSockets with publish-subscribe hubs and groups. The REST API can send messages and manage clients, and server SDKs are available for C#, JavaScript, Java, and Python. Azure Functions is an integration point for event-driven application flows. JWT-based client authorization is included. This range makes the service more than a basic connection endpoint, but it remains a managed cloud service rather than a self-hosted component; teams seeking control over their own deployment should look elsewhere.
The Free plan includes 20 concurrent connections per unit and 20,000 messages per unit per day, with a maximum of one unit. Standard allows up to 100 units, provides 1,000 concurrent connections per unit, and has unlimited messages with the first 1,000,000 free; its SLA is 99.9%. Premium raises the maximum to 1,000 units and adds 99.95% SLA, availability zone support, managed autoscaling, and geo-replication. According to the vendor's pricing page, paid pricing requires region and currency selection or a sales quote. Azure teams can start with the free tier and choose paid capacity as requirements grow; buyers who need self-hosting or clear upfront paid pricing may prefer another option.
