Azure Firewall Manager review
A focused Azure service for coordinating firewall policies, routing and related security controls.

Azure Firewall Manager is a Microsoft Azure service for centrally configuring and deploying Azure Firewall instances across regions, subscriptions, secured virtual hubs and hub virtual networks. It is aimed at administrators who need to coordinate firewall policy and routing across an Azure environment, rather than manage unrelated firewall products. Its controls also cover Azure DDoS Protection plans and Web Application Firewall policies, with integration options for third-party security-as-a-service providers.
Policy hierarchy is a key part of the service: administrators can work with global and local firewall policies, associate policies with secured virtual hubs and hub virtual networks, and centrally route traffic for secured virtual hubs. Existing classic Azure Firewall rules can be imported into Firewall Policy. These capabilities suit organizations standardizing policy across Azure deployments; buyers looking for broad multi-vendor firewall administration should consider whether this Azure-centered scope fits their environment.
Azure Firewall Manager itself has no charge, but that does not make the overall deployment free: policies, deployments, Azure Firewall, DDoS Protection, WAF and partner services may incur usage charges. Administrators can create and manage policies in the Azure portal or through REST API, templates, PowerShell, CLI and Terraform, which gives infrastructure automation a clear role in operations. The service is a stronger fit for teams that need centralized Azure policy and automation than for teams prioritizing built-in rule conflict analysis or approval-based change workflows. Those change-control needs may call for an alternative with those capabilities.
