Azure Content Delivery Network is Microsoft's cloud service for caching and delivering websites, applications, media, photos, and large files from distributed edge locations. It is suited to Azure customers that need global edge delivery, video or media streaming, large-file downloads, custom-domain HTTPS, or Dynamic Site Acceleration for content that cannot be cached. Its platform fit is strongest inside Azure, with connections to Azure services, Azure Storage, and Azure APIs.

Pricing is usage-based rather than subscription-based. The Azure Content Delivery Network from Microsoft (classic) (S3) plan starts at $0.081 per GB per month and includes a Standard CDN bundle, outbound data transfer, five geographic pricing zones, and first 10 TB per month billed at the first tier. Azure Premium Content Delivery Network adds a rules engine and advanced real-time analytics. There is no free plan, so buyers should account for delivery volume and geographic usage when comparing options.

The feature set covers the main requirements of a traditional CDN: global edge caching, media streaming, large-file delivery, custom-domain HTTPS, DDoS and WAF protection, routing rules, Azure API management, and access logs through Azure Monitor. The main concern is lifecycle rather than basic capability: Azure CDN Standard from Microsoft (classic) is on a retirement path ending September 30, 2027, and Azure Front Door is positioned as Microsoft's modern CDN replacement. Choose Azure Content Delivery Network for an existing legacy Azure setup with straightforward delivery needs; choose an alternative for a new deployment that needs a longer-term direction.
