AWS Fargate runs containerized applications without requiring teams to manage servers or clusters. It works with Amazon ECS and Amazon EKS and suits AWS users deploying web applications, APIs, microservices, data processing, or AI/ML workloads. Teams define container images and resource, networking, and storage requirements; AWS manages the underlying infrastructure. Linux and Windows containers are supported, and dedicated runtime isolation is available for ECS tasks and EKS pods.

Fargate's usage-based billing is calculated from vCPU, memory, operating system, CPU architecture, and storage resources. The official pricing page publishes rates by region and configuration, so costs depend on how workloads are configured and run rather than a fixed plan. Buyers comparing providers on a single monthly starting price may find this model harder to evaluate. It is a better fit for teams already planning container workloads within AWS and able to estimate resource needs.

Its AWS integrations cover the surrounding container workflow: Amazon ECR for images, CloudWatch, VPC, IAM, Elastic Load Balancing, EFS, EBS, and AWS Batch. Services can scale based on metrics, schedules, or queue backlogs. Private VPC networking, task-level elastic network interfaces, persistent storage through EFS and EBS, and configurable ephemeral task storage give teams options for different workload needs. Choose Fargate when ECS or EKS operation without server management is the priority; consider alternatives if you need a fixed-price container hosting plan or do not want to depend on AWS's container ecosystem.
