AutoIt review
A free Windows automation tool with strong desktop control and browser scripting.

AutoIt is a freeware, BASIC-like scripting language for automating Windows graphical interfaces and general scripting. It is suited to Windows users who need direct control over desktop applications, windows, processes, standard controls, keyboard input and mouse actions. The product also supports GUI creation, browser automation, scheduled task control and compilation into standalone executables, making it relevant for personal utilities, desktop workflows and Windows-focused automation projects.
Its main strength is the depth of Windows control in a free package. AutoIt can simulate keyboard and mouse actions, manipulate windows and processes, interact with standard Windows controls, and call COM, DLL and Windows API functions. Keystroke and mouse-action recording can turn recorded actions into AutoIt code, while Aut2Exe supports standalone executable compilation. Browser automation is available through the WebDriver UDF, and Windows Task Scheduler control is covered through a TaskScheduler UDF. This combination makes AutoIt more capable than a narrow macro recorder when the workflow stays within the Windows ecosystem.
AutoIt is free rather than subscription-based, so its pricing is straightforward: there is a freeware product with no paid tiers to compare. The trade-off is platform focus. AutoIt is distributed as a Windows desktop application, and its automation, scheduling and system integrations are centered on Windows. Teams seeking cross-platform automation or a broader integration ecosystem should consider another category option. Choose AutoIt when Windows GUI control, scripting flexibility, recording, browser automation or executable compilation matter more than multi-platform coverage; avoid it when the workflow must run beyond Windows.
