  • Where it wins

    • Handles stereo, multichannel, multi-driver, and multi-subwoofer rooms
    • Generates IIR, FIR, mixed-phase, and hybrid-phase corrections
    • Exports configurations for CamillaDSP, Roon, PipeWire, and other DSP systems
  • Where it doesn't

    • Command-line workflow requires technical DSP familiarity
    • Room measurement recording is handled through a separate SotF application
    • Support centers on documentation rather than a broader service model

Our verdict on AutoEQ

AutoEQ is an open-source Rust command-line toolkit for generating equalization corrections for headphones, loudspeakers, and rooms. It is aimed at technical users who already work with measured responses and want control over correction design, routing, crossover behavior, and DSP exports. The RoomEQ engine covers stereo, multichannel, multi-driver, and multi-subwoofer systems, while its workflows also support headphone and loudspeaker equalization.

Its ecosystem fit is a central strength. AutoEQ can generate parametric IIR, FIR, mixed-phase, and hybrid-phase corrections, then export configurations for CamillaDSP, Equalizer APO, Roon, PipeWire, REW Generic EQ, Wavelet, and EasyEffects workflows. It also produces convolution WAV sidecars and normalized biquad coefficients. Optimization can include magnitude, phase, timing, psychoacoustic targets, crossover and driver alignment, subwoofer alignment, routing, and multi-seat or listening-area strategies. That makes it suitable for custom signal chains where the output format matters as much as the correction method.

The main trade-off is the setup model. AutoEQ processes measurement responses but does not provide the room-recording layer itself; the separate SotF desktop application is referenced for graphical room measurement. Users therefore need to assemble a measurement and DSP workflow around the command-line tools, with documentation as the support path. Choose AutoEQ if you want self-hosted, open-source control across complex speaker layouts and multiple DSP targets. A graphical, all-in-one room-correction application is a better fit for users who prefer integrated measurement capture and guided setup.
