Our verdict on AuthLite

AuthLite is self-hosted multi-factor authentication software for organizations running Microsoft Active Directory and Windows domains. It adds one-time passcode validation to normal AD passwords and can protect domain administrator accounts, workstation logons, file shares, Remote Desktop, VPN access, LDAP services, and selected web-access scenarios. Support for YubiKey devices, OATH authenticator apps and hardware tokens, and OnlyKey devices gives teams several factor options. It is best suited to organizations that want MFA closely integrated with existing Windows domain controls rather than a broad, cloud-first identity platform.

The published license model is perpetual. The Base AuthLite System License includes perpetual use of any AuthLite version on domain systems, five perpetual AuthLite user licenses, and up to five hours of support for one year. A free trial lasts 30 days, and the vendor states that refunds are available within 30 days. Deployment covers domain controllers, member servers, and supported workstations, with Group Policy deployment and enforcement helping administrators apply configuration across the domain. Because the product is self-hosted, its fit depends on maintaining the relevant domain infrastructure.

AuthLite’s strongest area is the Windows access surface: native Active Directory authentication, Kerberos session tagging, offline or cached workstation logon protection, Remote Desktop two-factor authentication, Microsoft NPS/IAS RADIUS and LDAP connections, VPN integration, and network-server enforcement. Self-service token enrollment and management add administrative coverage. The trade-off is a narrower scope than platforms built around passwordless authentication or device trust; AuthLite does not provide passwordless authentication, and its macOS and Linux support is partial for domain members. Choose it for specialized AD and Windows MFA, but consider an alternative if your priority is a broader cross-platform identity strategy.
