Our verdict on Auth0 Guardian

Auth0 Guardian is a mobile authenticator for Auth0-based multi-factor authentication. It lets users approve or deny sign-in attempts through push notifications and generates temporary one-time passwords when push authentication is unavailable. Enrollment uses a QR code or a manually entered enrollment code, and the app supports passcode and biometric protection. Guardian is suited to teams building authentication flows around Auth0, particularly when push approvals should complement a secondary OTP method.

Pricing follows a freemium model. The Free plan costs $0 per month and includes up to 25,000 monthly active users, Passwordless Authentication, and provisions for MFA. Essentials costs $35 per month and includes up to 500 monthly active users, Pro Multi-Factor Authentication, and role-based access control per organization. Professional costs $240 per month and includes up to 500 monthly active users, Enterprise Multi-Factor Authentication, and Custom Token Exchange. Enterprise adds custom user and SSO tiers plus enterprise administration and support, with pricing handled through sales. The paid tiers describe broader Auth0 platform capabilities around Guardian rather than a separate charge for the mobile app itself.

For product teams that need a branded or embedded experience, Guardian supports application name, accent color, and icon customization, alongside Guardian SDK support for custom mobile applications. Its notification delivery integrations include Firebase Cloud Messaging, Apple Push Notification service, and Amazon Simple Notification Service. That makes it a practical fit for Auth0 deployments that need both managed mobile enrollment and a path to custom applications. It is less suitable for organizations seeking a standalone authenticator independent of Auth0, or a broader cross-platform app beyond iOS and Android. Choose Guardian when push-based MFA and Auth0 alignment matter most; consider an alternative when vendor-neutral authentication is the priority.
