AtScale provides a universal semantic layer between enterprise data platforms and analytics or AI applications. It lets organizations define metrics, relationships, dimensions, business logic, and security once, then expose them through BI tools, analytical applications, APIs, and AI agents. Its combination of governed metrics, row-level security, code-first and visual modeling, and hybrid deployment makes it suited to enterprise BI teams standardizing definitions across data environments.

The published editions are Standard and Enterprise, with pricing based on deployed semantic objects and a sales contact required. Standard includes semantic models and connectivity to BI tools. Enterprise adds broader integrations, enterprise governance, and support for large-scale semantic deployments. AtScale also offers a free Developer Edition and a 14-day trial. Its connectivity spans Snowflake, Databricks, Google BigQuery, Amazon Redshift, Microsoft Azure, Cloudera, and PostgreSQL, along with Power BI, Excel, Tableau, Looker, Superset, Qlik, and other BI tools.

For governed analytics programs, the feature depth is a clear strength. Dimensions, relationships, hierarchies, joins, row-level security objects, semantic aggregations, and REST APIs support both centralized modeling and application development. SQL, MDX, DAX, Python, and REST connectivity give teams multiple access paths, while Git-based versioning and CI/CD support controlled changes. Kubernetes-based deployment fits organizations managing their own infrastructure. AtScale is a strong choice for teams that need shared business logic across BI and AI; teams seeking transparent self-serve pricing or a narrower scheduling-style tool should look elsewhere.

AtScale pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • Code-first and visual modeling with Git-based versioning and CI/CD
    • Row-level security, governed metrics, and semantic aggregations
    • Broad BI, warehouse, API, and Kubernetes connectivity
  • Where it doesn't
    • Pricing is sales-led and based on deployed semantic objects.
    • Standard does not list broader integrations or enterprise governance.
    • The 14-day trial may depend on current qualification or availability.
