Artillery review
A flexible performance testing platform spanning APIs, browsers, WebSockets, and distributed execution.

Artillery is a performance testing platform for developers, QA engineers, and SRE teams. Its CLI supports load and stress testing for APIs, web applications, and network services across HTTP, WebSocket, and Socket.IO. Playwright-based browser load testing adds coverage for user-facing workflows, while custom JavaScript, phases, loops, and conditionals support more detailed virtual-user scenarios. Teams can run it on web, Windows, macOS, Linux, through an API, or in self-hosted environments.
Pricing is structured as a free tier and two paid monthly plans. Free includes 30 reports per month, one month of data retention, up to five distributed workers per test, a 30-minute test duration, and 25 test cases per report. Team costs $199 per month and raises those limits to 1,000 reports, six months of retention, up to 25 workers, two-hour tests, and 50 test cases per report. Business costs $499 per month and includes 2,500 reports, 18 months of retention, no stated distributed-worker or test-duration limit, and unlimited test cases per report. The published pricing page also states that annual subscriptions save 20%.
Its main advantage is breadth across testing, execution, and analysis. Distributed tests can run through AWS Lambda, AWS Fargate, or Azure Container Instances, with cloud dashboards, collaboration features, automatic Web Vitals collection, and trace recording for failing browser-test virtual users. Integrations include GitHub Actions, OpenTelemetry, Datadog, Grafana, New Relic, Honeycomb, Dynatrace, Prometheus, Splunk, InfluxDB, and StatsD. Artillery fits teams that need one tool for API, browser, and network-service performance work. Teams seeking only lightweight, occasional API checks may prefer a narrower tool.
Artillery pros and cons
- Where it wins
- Tests HTTP, WebSocket, Socket.IO, and Playwright browser workloads
- Runs distributed tests through AWS Lambda, AWS Fargate, and Azure
- Connects with CI/CD, observability tools, dashboards, and cloud reports
- Where it doesn't
- Free plan limits teams to 30 reports and 30-minute tests monthly
- Paid plans start at $199 per month
- The broad feature set may exceed the needs of basic API testing
