Array APV is a family of application delivery controllers for organizations managing traffic across applications, servers, sites, and network connections. It supports Layer 4 balancing for TCP, TCPS, and UDP traffic, along with Layer 7 application balancing, content switching, routing policies, and ePolicy scripting. Its fit is strongest for self-hosted multi-site deployments that need traffic control, availability features, and security controls in one platform.

Its main strength is breadth across application delivery and network traffic management. APV supports SSL/TLS acceleration and offloading, health checks, clustering, failover, persistence, global server load balancing across geographically distributed sites, and link load balancing across multiple WAN or ISP connections. A web application firewall and DDoS protection extend the platform beyond basic request distribution. This combination suits environments that need both local application routing and broader site or link-level control.

Platform fit is another important consideration. APV offers integrations with VMware vRealize Orchestrator, Microsoft System Center, and OpenStack Load Balancing-as-a-Service, as well as RESTful API and XML-RPC access. It is available as dedicated hardware appliances and virtual appliances, with web, API, self-hosted, and Linux support listed for the product. Purchasing is handled through sales contact, so teams comparing fixed public plans may prefer a product with openly published tiers. Choose Array APV when multi-site balancing, scripting, failover, security, and infrastructure-management integration are priorities; choose an alternative when the requirement is limited to straightforward, single-site load balancing.
