apex-lint review
Apex-focused static analysis for Salesforce teams, not crash capture.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
apex-lint is an open-source command-line and embeddable static-analysis tool for Salesforce Apex. It runs on Node.js without Java or the Salesforce Code Analyzer plugin, making it suited to solo developers and teams that want Apex checks in their own environments. Built-in rules address security, performance, design, error-prone code, best practices, and style. The tool supports SFDX projects, metadata-root analysis for type-aware rules, configuration files, and rule or category filtering.
Its workflow fits development and CI pipelines. Pretty-text, JSON, and SARIF output formats let teams choose human-readable reports or code-scanning results, while configuration auto-discovery and severity overrides help standardize checks across repositories. PMD-compatible inline suppressions provide a way to handle intentional exceptions. The ESLint plugin and custom Apex parser extend the tool into editor workflows, with VS Code support available through the ESLint extension. GitHub code scanning is also listed as an integration.
apex-lint is open source with a free plan and self-hosted deployment, so its cost model centers on operating the tool rather than selecting paid feature tiers. Its focus is narrow: Apex static analysis. Category specifications include Apex and metadata analysis, CI integration, and multiple IDE options, but not Visualforce or Lightning Web Components analysis. It also does not serve as a crash-reporting system for runtime failures. Choose apex-lint when Salesforce code quality, security checks, and CI feedback are the priority; choose a crash-reporting product when incident capture and diagnostics are required.
