Our verdict on AP News
AP News brings The Associated Press’s reporting to readers who want a free way to follow breaking news, world headlines, and local coverage. Available on web, iOS, and Android, it supports topic and developing-story follows alongside a personalized feed. Its scope suits general-news readers who value AP’s coverage and a direct route to local reporting from AP member news organizations, rather than a broad collection of publisher subscriptions.
The app combines articles with photos, videos, and podcasts. Readers can follow subjects and developing stories, receive interest-based alerts, and explore curated hubs for major news events. The website organizes coverage into sections including world, U.S., politics, sports, business, science, and entertainment. This mix gives readers multiple formats and ways to track ongoing events, while the product remains focused on reading and following news rather than offering a larger suite of discovery tools.
AP News is free on web and mobile, with no paywall access indicated in the app listing. That makes it a straightforward fit for readers seeking AP and member-organization coverage without a paid plan. The tradeoff is a narrower publisher scope and fewer reading and discovery tools than some alternatives in the category. Choose it for free access to AP reporting, customizable topic feeds, alerts, and local coverage; consider another news app if broader publisher choice or more extensive discovery features are central to your routine.
