Our verdict on Antville

Antville is open-source weblog hosting software for individuals, communities, and organizations that want to run one or many blogs on their own infrastructure. It combines weblog creation, multi-site hosting, customizable HTML skins, story tagging, scheduled and backdated posts, comments, media handling, polls, user groups, permissions, search, RSS 2.0 feeds, and custom-domain hosting. Its audience is strongest among teams that want control over publishing and community features rather than a hosted blogging service with a narrower setup path.

The product’s free, open-source model covers the full feature set rather than separating core publishing features into paid tiers. Antville can be installed on Linux, Windows, or macOS and supports self-hosted deployment, web access, APIs, and custom-domain virtual sites. The published feature set includes Blogger XML import and export, application programming interfaces for external posting tools, and web-based skin editing. That combination gives administrators several ways to manage content, presentation, and multiple sites, but it also makes infrastructure ownership part of the product decision.

Antville’s main strength is breadth within community-oriented blogging: discussion structures can be flat, simple-threaded, or deeply threaded, while images, files, polls, permissions, search, and feeds are built into the publishing environment. The trade-off is a more code- and administration-oriented experience. Layout customization uses HTML skins and custom code, and the integration story is primarily API-based rather than centered on a wide modern app ecosystem. Choose Antville if multisite publishing, comments, custom domains, and self-hosting matter most. Choose another blogging platform if you want a managed service, low-configuration onboarding, or a broader set of ready-made integrations.
