Our verdict on Ant Media Server
Ant Media Server is a real-time video streaming engine for software developers, product teams, broadcasters, and enterprises. It supports self-hosted, on-premises, private-cloud, public-cloud, and cloud-marketplace deployments. Its core fit is teams that need low-latency WebRTC alongside broader protocol support, rather than casual producers seeking a simple browser-only production workspace. Community Edition provides a free entry point, while Enterprise Edition adds capabilities for larger streaming operations.
Pricing is structured around deployment and usage. Community Edition is free with limited functions. The Hourly License costs $0.24 per instance per hour and includes Enterprise Edition, no connection limit, transcoding, SDKs, standard support, and free software upgrades. Monthly License costs $109 per instance per month with the same listed features. Annual License costs $89 per instance per month when billed annually and adds advanced scalability. Perpetual License costs $2,799 one time per instance and includes lifetime usage, no connection limit, transcoding, advanced scalability, and SDKs. AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud licenses are priced at $0.33, $0.44, and $0.56 per instance per hour respectively; infrastructure, storage, and bandwidth are billed separately by the cloud provider.
Its strongest advantage is breadth around the streaming engine itself. Ant Media Server combines WebRTC, HLS, DASH, RTMP, RTSP, SRT, and Zixi with adaptive-bitrate transcoding, MP4, WebM, HLS, and periodic recording, scheduled VOD playlists, prerecorded live streaming, and RTMP restreaming to Facebook, YouTube, Twitch, LinkedIn, and custom destinations. REST APIs, SDKs, token and JWT controls, IP filtering, cluster scaling, and auto-scaling support product-level integration. Choose it when infrastructure control and protocol flexibility matter; choose another option if you want a simpler producer-focused workflow with less deployment responsibility.
