AmorphousDiskMark review
A focused, free Mac utility for configurable storage read/write benchmarking.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
AmorphousDiskMark is a free, open-source macOS utility for measuring storage read and write performance. It is designed for Mac users who want a focused way to benchmark selected volumes, covering sequential and random workloads. Results can be displayed in MB/s or IOPS, making the tool suitable for comparing throughput and input/output performance across storage configurations. The application supports macOS 10.9 or later and is available through the Mac App Store.
Its main strength is configurable storage testing. Sequential tests use 1 MiB blocks, while random tests use 4 KiB blocks. Queue-depth testing reaches up to 1024, and the measurement size can be set from 16 MiB to 64 GiB. Users can also configure intervals, duration limits, test data, and iteration counts, which gives the utility more control than a fixed one-click benchmark. Custom test profiles make it useful when a standard run does not match the workload being examined.
AmorphousDiskMark keeps the scope narrow: it measures storage throughput and IOPS rather than serving as a broad PC benchmark suite. Its output options are practical for documentation, with formatted plain-text copying and screenshot saving. Mac users who want a free, open-source disk benchmark with adjustable workloads should find the feature set well aligned with that purpose. Users seeking Windows support, broader component testing, or a wider range of system benchmarks should choose a different category tool.
