AmorphousDiskMark review
A free macOS disk benchmark with configurable tests and MB/s and IOPS results.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
AmorphousDiskMark is a free macOS utility for measuring sequential and random read/write performance on internal or external storage volumes. It is aimed at Mac users who want focused disk benchmarking rather than a broader storage-management suite. The application covers sequential 1 MiB tests and random 4 KiB tests, with results presented in MB/s and IOPS. Its source code is publicly available under the MIT license.
The Free plan provides the full product described: a macOS storage performance testing utility with no paid tier presented. Testing parameters can be adjusted across several dimensions, including queue depth up to 1024, measurement size from 16 MiB to 64 GiB, iteration count, interval, and duration limit. Users can also choose random or zero test data. This makes the utility suitable for repeatable comparisons across different test conditions, while formatted plain-text result copying makes findings easier to retain or share.
AmorphousDiskMark’s main trade-off is its narrow platform and measurement focus. It is built for macOS and concentrates on sequential and random throughput and IOPS, rather than presenting a wider cross-platform workflow. Latency reporting is not part of the documented output, and a command-line interface is not documented. Choose it if you need a free Mac utility with adjustable storage tests and straightforward results. Choose another tool if you need Windows or Linux support, latency-focused analysis, or command-line operation.
