Amazon SageMaker Ground Truth is a cloud service for creating machine-learning training datasets. It supports image annotation, text annotation, video and video-frame annotation, and 3D point-cloud annotation. Teams can create labeling jobs through the SageMaker console or API, use private, vendor, or Mechanical Turk workforces, and design custom worker interfaces. Its audience is primarily organizations already operating data pipelines in AWS, especially those that need several annotation types within one service.

The labeling workflow covers more than basic annotation. Active learning can automate parts of data labeling, while annotation consolidation combines work from multiple workers. Verification and adjustment workflows support review before datasets are used for model development. The service also connects with Amazon S3, AWS IAM, Amazon CloudWatch, AWS CloudTrail, Amazon SNS, AWS Lambda, Amazon Cognito, and Amazon Mechanical Turk. That ecosystem fit makes it suitable for teams that need AWS identity, storage, monitoring, audit, notification, serverless, and workforce services around labeling jobs.

According to the published product notes, Ground Truth is paid and usage-based, with charges depending on reviewed dataset objects, workforce choices, and related AWS resources. AWS states that the service is no longer open to new customers, that no new features are planned, and that existing customers can continue using it. Existing AWS customers with established labeling workflows and requirements spanning multiple data formats should consider it when its workforce and review features fit their operations. Organizations starting a new labeling program, or seeking a product with an active feature roadmap and a straightforward public entry price, should consider alternatives instead.
