A straightforward AWS VPS with clear plans, blueprints, and supporting cloud services.

Amazon Lightsail is a VPS and cloud hosting service for developers, small businesses, students, and others building websites or web applications. It offers Linux/Unix and Windows virtual private servers through the Lightsail console, with preconfigured application and operating-system blueprints for options such as WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, Magento, LAMP, Nginx, and Node.js. Browser-based SSH and RDP access support server administration, while containers, managed databases, SSD-backed block storage, load balancers, CDN distributions, DNS management, static IP addresses, and snapshots extend the core VPS service.
Pricing is easy to compare by operating system and network configuration. The General Purpose IPv6-only Linux/Unix plan costs $3.50 per month and includes 2 vCPUs, 512 MB memory, 20 GB SSD disk, and 1 TB transfer. Linux/Unix with public IPv4 costs $5 per month with 2 vCPUs, 512 MB memory, 20 GB storage, and 1 TB data transfer. Windows plans cost $8 per month for IPv6-only access or $9.50 per month with public IPv4; both provide 2 vCPUs, 512 MB memory, 30 GB storage, and 1 TB transfer. A 90-day free trial is available, while data-transfer allowances vary by AWS Region.
Lightsail fits teams that want a simple entry point into AWS hosting without assembling every service separately. AWS CLI, the Lightsail API, and AWS SDKs provide paths for automation, and snapshots are available manually or automatically. The trade-off is a self-managed environment: the plans provide virtual servers and supporting services, not a fully managed application platform. The entry tiers also have modest memory and storage allocations, so organizations needing more resources or a different hosting model may prefer an alternative. Pick Lightsail for transparent VPS pricing, familiar operating-system choices, and AWS-connected services; avoid it if server administration is outside your responsibilities.
