Altova UModel is a Windows desktop UML modeling application for software developers and development teams. It supports UML 2.5.1 modeling across 14 diagram types, including class, activity, component, sequence, state machine, and use case diagrams. Its code-connected workflow covers Java, C++, C#, and Visual Basic .NET code generation, reverse engineering from source code and binaries, and round-trip synchronization between models and source code. XMI import and export, database modeling, SQL script generation, source control integration, team subprojects, and simultaneous editing extend its use beyond standalone diagram creation.

Pricing is organized into three paid editions. Basic Edition costs $209 as a one-time price with annual billing and includes 14 UML 2 diagrams, Java, C#, and Visual Basic .NET code generation, reverse engineering, and round-trip engineering. Professional Edition costs $349 and adds SysML, BPMN, UML database diagrams, and Visual Studio and Eclipse integration. Enterprise Edition costs $429 and adds Model Driven Architecture and platform-independent models. A 30-day free trial is available, and Support and Maintenance Packs are listed separately. The published pricing structure makes Basic a fit for core UML and code workflows, while teams needing broader modeling or IDE connectivity will need a higher tier.

UModel fits Windows teams that want a desktop repository with strong links between models and implementation. Its Eclipse and Microsoft Visual Studio integrations, XMI support, source control connections, and collaborative subprojects suit development environments where diagrams need to stay connected to code and shared model work. Database diagrams and SQL generation add value for teams covering application and data design in one tool. It is less suitable for organizations requiring a cross-platform desktop application or a free entry tier. Choose Basic for code generation and reverse engineering, Professional for SysML, BPMN, database modeling, or IDE integration, and Enterprise for Model Driven Architecture and platform-independent models.
