Alibaba Cloud WAF is a web application firewall for websites, APIs, and web services hosted on Alibaba Cloud or elsewhere. It inspects HTTP and HTTPS traffic and blocks common attacks such as SQL injection, cross-site scripting, webshell uploads, command injection, and HTTP floods. The product is suited to teams that need managed protection rules alongside custom policies, API security, bot management, rate limiting, data leakage prevention, web tamper protection, and security logging. WAF 3.0 supports cloud-native, CNAME, and hybrid-cloud connection methods, while integrations include Alibaba Cloud load balancers, Elastic Compute Service, Function Compute, Microservices Engine, cloud-native API Gateway, and AI Gateway.
Pricing is tiered around traffic capacity and domain coverage. Basic costs $140 per month for 10 QPS, 3 domain names, and standard ports. Pro costs $556 per month for 2,000 QPS and 5 domain names, with API Security and bot management available as add-ons. Enterprise costs $1,400 per month for 5,000 QPS and 10 domain names, and includes a hybrid-cloud node. Ultimate costs $4,260 per month for 10,000 QPS and 50 domain names, also with a hybrid-cloud node. A Pay-as-you-go option uses hourly SeCU metering and postpaid billing, with resource plans able to offset usage.
The main distinction is breadth: Alibaba Cloud WAF combines managed and custom protection with API controls, bot traffic mitigation, HTTP flood protection, rate limiting, DLP, tamper protection, and log analysis. That makes it a fit for organizations already working across Alibaba Cloud services or needing hybrid connectivity. Buyers should account for the Basic plan's limited capacity and the additional cost of higher tiers; teams needing API security or bot management on Pro must also budget for add-ons. Organizations seeking a lower-cost entry point or simpler web protection should consider a narrower alternative.
