Alibaba Cloud Bare Metal Server review
A strong fit for Alibaba Cloud workloads that need bare-metal control and ECS compatibility.

Alibaba Cloud Bare Metal Server, also called ECS Bare Metal Instance, provides dedicated physical compute through Alibaba Cloud’s Elastic Compute Service. It is designed for workloads that need direct processor and memory access without virtualization overhead, including databases, web applications, containers, gaming, analytics, hardware-bound licensing, and private-cloud-compatible environments. The service supports both web and API workloads and combines physical isolation with instance-style provisioning and management.
Its strongest advantage is the way bare-metal resources connect to Alibaba Cloud’s wider infrastructure. ECS image compatibility supports familiar image-based deployment, while VPC networking connects instances with Alibaba Cloud networking services, databases, storage services, and Cloud Backup. Cloud-disk integration includes boot from cloud disks, and physical-machine failover can preserve data stored on those disks. Minute-level provisioning adds a cloud-style operational model, while IPv4 and IPv6 support is available on supported instance families.
The feature set is particularly relevant when nested virtualization or confidential computing matters. Nested virtualization supports workloads that need another virtualization layer, and Intel SGX support addresses workloads requiring confidential-computing capabilities. Availability and configuration still depend on the selected instance family and region, including storage options, bandwidth, and IP allocations. Choose Alibaba Cloud Bare Metal Server when dedicated physical performance, ECS compatibility, and VPC integration are central requirements. Consider another dedicated server option if your infrastructure is not built around Alibaba Cloud services or if you need one standardized configuration across regions.
Alibaba Cloud Bare Metal Server pros and cons

- Dedicated processor and memory access without virtualization overhead
- Nested virtualization and ECS image compatibility
- Cloud-disk failover with data preserved during physical-machine replacement
- Where it doesn't
- Instance, storage, bandwidth, and IP options vary by region and family
- Best suited to workloads already aligned with Alibaba Cloud services
- IPv4 and IPv6 availability depends on the supported instance family
