Alibaba Cloud Backup is a cloud-based backup and disaster-recovery service for Alibaba Cloud and on-premises resources. It is aimed at organizations protecting NAS file systems, servers, databases, ECS instances, OSS, and VMware virtual machines. Alibaba Cloud NAS can use agentless protection where supported, while on-premises and Extreme NAS systems can use a local backup client. NAS users get scheduled full and incremental backups, file and folder restoration, retention policies, backup vaults, and policy-based archiving.

Pricing is paid and comes in two main forms. Pay-as-you-go charges are based on consumed backup resources and features; bills are generated hourly for most backup types and settled monthly. The Subscription resource plan uses prepaid resources that can reduce backup costs, with plans shared across supported backup sources and regions under an Alibaba Cloud account. Alibaba Cloud NAS and OSS backups include a one-month free trial, but the service does not have a free plan. Actual cost depends on the backup source, storage consumption, region, and selected features.

Recovery coverage extends beyond files: the service supports cross-region and cross-account recovery, database backup, VMware virtual-machine backup, deduplication, compression, and configurable retention. On-premises NAS documentation lists backup locking as supported, while immutable backup is not supported for NAS Backup vaults, so protection requirements should be checked against the specific backup type and vault design. Alibaba Cloud users needing NAS, database, and virtual-machine coverage in one service should consider it; organizations seeking a free plan or immutable protection specifically for NAS Backup vaults should choose another option.
